Young Dr. Jonathon Pitney
arrived in Absecon, New Jersey about 1819 just two years after he graduated from
medical school. Dr. Pitney was later responsible for the construction of
the railroad east across New Jersey to Absecon Island, now Atlantic City,
earning him the moniker "Father of Atlantic City."
Dr. Pitney's colonial style
home was built in 1799 by Samuel Reed. Dr. Pitney purchased the home in
1833 and constructed an Italian style addition in 1848.
The Dr. Jonathon Pitney House
Bed and Breakfast consists of ten tastefully furnished guest rooms housed in two
buildings: the main Pitney Manor House and the Pitney Guest Quarters. The rooms are
decorated in either a Colonial or Victorian style.
A bountiful breakfast is served
each morning with fresh squeezed juices, homemade breads and coffee cakes, and
an entree such as over-stuffed french toast, soufflés, fruit dishes and more.
